Cádiz is in the southwestern part of Andalusia, being the southernmost point of continental Western Europe. It has many kilometers of beaches and (as 2005) the highest number of Blue Flags of all coastal provinces in Europe. Some of these beaches are relatively wild and far from big urban areas due to the closeness of natural reserves. Being that one of its attractives in contrast to the mass tourism of other areas in the Mediterranean coast. The area near Tarifa is known to be an important windsurf area and similar sports due to the almost permanent wind near the Strait of Gibraltar.
The province also has several Parques Naturales (Nature Parks or Reserves): Parque Natural Bahía de Cádiz, Parque Natural de la Breña y Marismas del Barbate, Parque natural del Estrecho, Parque Natural Los Alcornocales (Shared with the Province of Málaga), Parque Natural Sierra de Grazalema (Shared with the Province of Málaga) and Parque Natural de Doñana (Shared with the provinces of Huelva and Sevilla).

The Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park is part of the most western massif of the Ronda mountain ranges and is considered to be one of the most beautiful in southern Spain . It includes part of the provinces of Cádiz and Málaga. It has the highest rainfall rate in the Iberian Peninsula which, together with the limestone terrain, has shaped a limestone landscape with many rugged areas, grottos, caves and winding gorges. One of the outstanding areas is the Sierra del Pinar with its important Spanish Fir forest, a tree that is believe to be a relic of the Tertiary era. The La Garganta Verde (Green Gorge) is another part of its legendary landscapes. Its sheer vertical rocky walls rise up over 400 metres and are home to some of the park's most unusual species of fauna and flora. |

Dubbed the Costa de la Luz (Coast of the Light), the Atlantic shoreline of Cadiz province have many wild and windswept beaches, with its strong winds making Tarifa the foremost windsurf site in Europe.
Considerable stretches of the coast are particularly noteworthy for their wealth of wildlife, including the extensive Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park, covering the beaches and wetlands of Cadiz Bay; the Estrecho Natural Park along the Strait (Estrecho) of Gibraltar from Algeciras to Bolonia, including a significant marine section; and the Breña and Marismas de Barbate Natural Park, the coastal cliffs and pine forest between Los Caños de Meca and Barbate as well as Barbate´s saltmarshes.
Being so close to the Strait of Gibraltar means that the province is an ideal place for birdwatching during periods of migration between Europe and Africa. |
