GALAROZA
(HUELVA)
Galaroza is located in the centre of the Sierra de Aracena y los Picos de Aroche Natural Park, one of the most important protected spaces of the Community, which occupies the whole of the north of the province with its meadows and small rises in the ground, covered predominantly in holm oak woods, cork oaks, chestnut trees and scrub through which numerous streams flow forming an extraordinarily beautiful and attractive landscape which is ideal for livestock, especially pigs which find the conditions here ideal.

In the village itself, catalogued as Property of Cultural Interest, the Chapel of Santa Brígida and the Church of the Purísima Concepción stand out. Other points of interest are the Carmen Church and the Carmen Fountain.

History

It formed part of Aracena until the year 1553 in which it obtained the Letter of Exemption and Jurisdiction granted by Felipe II.

Heritage

Historical-Artistic Group of buildings.

Chapel (Ermita de Santa Brígida), end of the XV century. Roman plans.

Parish church (Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima Concepción), XVI century. Neoclassical style. It preserves a sculpture of the Virgen del Carmen, by Roldana.

Places of Interest: Twelve Jet Fountian.

Cuisine

Cured meats and hams. Gazpacho de invierno (Winter tomato and garlic soup).
Visitors can buy delicious cured meats and furniture.

Festivals

- Festival of the Jarritos, month of September. In the square of the Twelve jet fountain it is permitted to soak anybody.

- Festival of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, July.

- Open-air procession of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, September.
