Algar is located 204 metres above sea level.
81 Km from Cadiz , 87 Km from Algeciras and 18 Km from Arcos de la Frontera.
Standing next to the Guadalcacín II reservoir, the old Majaceite River and very close to the Hurones Reservoir, Algar is a typical local village with whitewashed houses and forms part of the Route of the White Villages.

Algar means “cave” in Arabic and was probably named after the many craves to be found in the surrounding countryside. The town was founded in 1773 by Domingo López de Carvajal.
Its leather and woodwork are of particular note.
Alger's gastronomy is famous for its tomato soup, garlic soup and little round ring cakes made from eggs or olive oil.
